In a lopsided victory, the Colorado Rockies trampled the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-2 with the assistance of their organization’s top prospect, third baseman Nolan Arenado. Recently receiving the call up, Nolan Arenado put on quite a show for his family and friends in his second major-league game.

While the hit parade began in the first inning with a four runs, Nolan Arenado wouldn’t reach base until the third inning on an error, but it wouldn’t be his last.

Ted Lilly opened up the batter’s box turnstile, and the Rockies took advantage of it. In the fourth, Nolan Arenado snagged the first hit of his career and received a push to second when Jonathan Herrera singled to left. Even Rockies starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood helped secure his first win of the season when he singled into the gap (Chatwood would go 3-for-4 with two RBIs). Then on a 3-0 count, Lilly walked Dexter Fowler with the bases loaded, and Nolan Arenado scored the first run of his career.

Jordan Pacheco laced a wall hopping two-run double to center field, putting the Rockies up 10-0 in the fourth with two outs. The bloodletting would slow, but by then the Dodgers had bled out.

In his fourth at bat, Nolan Arenado ripped a home run over the centerfield wall, a two-run bomb that pushed the lead to 12-0. He would finish the night with three hits, a strong outing by the highly touted rookie. Fowler and Wilin Rosario joined him in the boxscore with home runs of their own.

Adam Ottavino relieved Chatwood (3.00 ERA, five hits) after the seventh inning (Lilly wouldn’t make it past the fourth) and gave up two runs but struck out four very convincingly.

The Rockies played a great, complete game, and Nolan Arenado finally got a chance to make his mark on the club, and he didn’t disappoint.
