The trade rumors never stop in Philadelphia, and the current hot rumor has the Phillies aggressively pursuing Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton. CBSPhilly reporter Chris May first broke the rumor, but it is not known how far along talks between the two clubs are.

From a Marlins perspective, it does not make much sense for them to trade one of baseball’s up-and-coming stars to a division rival, especially when they have Stanton locked up until 2016 with his current deal. Also, if they were trying to trade Stanton, they would most likely get much more then Philadelphia, which has a depleted farm system from five years of trades, could offer.

Philly could bring pitching prospect Jessie Biddle and shortstop Roman Quinn to the table, but both are lower top-100 prospects. Also, any deal would most likely include often-rumored Domonic Brown, who is only two years removed from being the fourth most highly regarded prospect in baseball.  Still, Biddle, Quinn and Brown does not seem like nearly enough to bring Stanton to Citizens Bank Park.

Giancarlo Stanton is the one thing Miami still has left to draw fans. Even if they do find a good deal for him, it may not be worth losing what is left of their fan base at this point. I doubt any of these rumors are legit, but as a Phillies fan, I can hope for some truth in them.   The trade could instantly make Philly a contender for years to come.
