Chicago Cubs help tornado victims in need

It’s been over two weeks since I went into offseason mode, and I’m happy with that. The baseball season is very draining for me — particularly when it doesn’t go well on the field — and this hiatus is very much needed. The trades, free-agent signings and all of that can be addressed next spring.

So, what’s the point of this? To tell anyone interested in the relief efforts of the Chicago Cubs on behalf of tornado victims in Central Illinois. In the days after devastating tornados destroyed significant parts of towns, such as Washington, Illinois, the Cubs collected food, cleaning supplies and other needed materials at Wrigley Field. On Friday, the collected materials were loaded onto a truck and delivered directly to affected areas.

It felt very good to be a part of this effort, even if my donation was just a few paper products. Giving anything at all is important, particularly when there are more than 1,000 houses that need to be cleaned up before anyone can think about rebuilding.

The days are getting shorter and colder here in the Midwest, and there are many challenges ahead for the Peoria region. But the Chicago Cubs have stepped up to the plate, and for that they should be commended.

Now, back to the offseason for me. Happy holidays to all!
