Friday Fantasy Roundup: Harper, Braun, Konerko

Will Bryce Harper impress enough during spring training to break camp with the Nationals? (Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post)

Welcome to Friday Fantasy Roundup where I will share with you players who are making headlines each week. Let’s kick it off with a spring training edition …

It is only March and the Nationals already are feeling the pressure of having to add Bryce Harper to the opening-day roster. I expect a June call-up, but if you are in a crazy league that is already starting the draft, grab this guy with your last pick. If he makes the roster, you look like a savvy fantasy stud.

Whew! Keeper league owners who happen to have a lot invested in Ryan Braun can rest easy. Your boy is back. Here is a good article on what you have been telling your friends all winter long on why Braun was innocent.

I was really looking forward to the inflated Ryan Zimmerman stats this season. Now, that has been ruined due to the contract he just signed. Now I am looking forward to Zimmerman being 30 pounds overweight and under performing.

Poor Red Sox. The hits just keep coming as their captain has finally retired. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will take over as their everyday catcher with a couple of young prospects waiting in the wings.

I am not going to lie, I got lucky last season and look a flier on Jesus Montero, and he helped propel me to a championship. Will he put up those crazy stats from last season? The Mariners are very optimistic. He could be a sneaky pick in the middle of your draft.

I always like to have at least one guy on my fantasy team who may or may not have killed some people so I can intimidate my opponents. If Alfredo Simon can make the rotation with the Orioles, he could be that guy as well as a fantasy sleeper.

Paul Konerko is okay with not making the playoffs? I hope his easy thinking sparks him and his deadweight teammates this season to do something besides suck.

Jason Heyward killed a few fantasy teams last season. Now in his third full season, if he is healthy and ready for a comeback season, he could be a steal in the draft. I am keeping close watch on what he does in spring training.
