Highlights: Marcell Ozuna throw, Cards 3-1-3 putout

If you were in Miami or St. Louis last night, you witnessed two highly unlikely plays, which also qualify as two of the better plays in MLB this season. One for its pure athleticism and one for its jaw-dropping “did that really just happen?” moment. Instead of describing what happened, let’s go to the videotape.

First, the Marcell Ozuna throw and putout at the plate to preserve the Miami Marlins 3-2 win over the Mets. In fact, he threw out the tying run at the plate in the eighth and ninth innings. Even if you’re a Mets fan, you’re applauding the ninth inning play — a rope of a throw on the fly. Oh, my!

Now on to the buffoonery of the ol’ 3-1-3 putout at first. It’s hard to describe, so enjoy the ballet that is Matt Adams to Trevor Rosenthal to Matt Adams. Enjoy Tim McCarver’s chuckling, and Chase Utley’s and Ryan Howard’s disbelief.
