Florida Marlins ace Josh Johnson done for the season?

I’m asking the question all Florida Marlins fans must be thinking after the latest news from the clubhouse today. Still reeling during a 3-21 June, the Marlins learned today that Josh Johnson is headed for a visit with renowned orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews after experiencing continued pain in his right shoulder. J.J. has shut down his tossing sessions and is seeking further opinion on the ailing shoulder that sent him to the 60-day DL on May 21.

The Marlins were hoping for a post All-Star break return for Johnson, but that appears to be in jeopardy now. Scheduling a visit to Dr. Andrews could be an indication that the lingering discomfort may be more serious than originally thought. Johnson’s agent, Matt Sosnick, texted Miami Herald reporter Clark Spencer that the visit is “nothing serious” and simply a second opinion.

Palm Beach Post reporter Joe Capozzi included a quote from Marlins’ president of baseball operations Larry Bienfest: “The update is that J.J. says that shoulder does not feel 100 percent and is going to see Andrews tomorrow before proceeding further with the throwing program.”

I asked Capozzi via Twitter what the feeling was behind the scenes. His response: “no good feel of any buzz yet but it’s not good when he stops his throwing program bc shoudler not 100 pct…”

Johnson posted a 3-1 record and 1.64 ERA in nine starts before landing on the DL.
