Rumor mill: Cole Hamels may be heading to the Texas Rangers. (Reinhold Matay/USA TODAY Sports)

There is finally some news on the seasonal “Cole Hamels trade front.” According to recent reports, the Phillies and Rangers are in active discussions involving a trade of Cole Hamels. The key to these discussions is that Hamels has agreed to waive his no-trade clause in order to go to Texas. Hamels is 5-5 so far this season with a 2.96 ERA. It is not known yet who the Phillies are looking for in return, but Texas has a good amount of young talent, and there has been much speculation with regard to a possible Hamels trade for three years.

I am sure many more rumors will be flying around over the next few weeks, but with this being the first significant rumor of the year, it brings a sense of excitement with it to Philadelphia. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to cheer for in the Philly baseball scene these days, so seeing the team’s ace get shipped off for young talent is welcomed news. It will be sad to see Cole go, but ultimately, the Phillies will not be able to rebuild without giving him up for prospects at this point. Stay tuned to TTFB for more updates!
