It’s been a whirlwind week for the Trevor Bauer camp. Elsewhere, teams that didn’t sign Bauer breathe a sign of relief, and a few guys went into the office this week with the “I told you so” comments to their GMs or superiors. Everyone thought his troubles would come via social media or his comments he lets fly off his chest, not this, and no one should be happy about this.
Earlier this week, a report by Brittany Ghiroli and Katie Strang of The Athletic broke the news of Trevor Bauer being accused of assaulting a 27 year old woman in Los Angeles back in April. The two, who met through Facebook’s Instagram, hooked up in two separate occasions.
(Warning: The below details sexual sensitive details regarding allegations of sexual assault.)
The first occasion happened on April 21st, in between his two starts against the San Diego Padres. When the two started to have consensual sex, Bauer asked to get a little bit rougher. She consented but claimed he put his fingers down her throat too rough. But then, after he stopped, he began choking her with her hair, without her consent, which made her pass out.
Not sure how long she had been sleeping, she woke up to find Trevor penetrating her anally, obviously not consenting to that either. She claims she went to the bathroom bleeding and then, oddly, proceeded to believe it was OK to stay the night with him, saying “In my state at that time, I did not think Trevor was a threat to do anything against my will for the remainder of the night.”
Not sure how much that will hurt her in court, but staying the night after that with that rationalization is odd. Why stay? If he physically choked you out and did things while you were unconscious, why would you think he wouldn’t do it again and everything was now safe? I’m sure Bauer’s camp will attack that motive to some extent.
She also says she had a conversation with him the next morning, expressing how it wasn’t a pleasant night for her, and he seemed to “understand”.
Oddly, she returned back to his house in May and the two agreed to use a safe word. Doubt it was Thor. After five minutes into sex, Bauer returned back to the choking methods and the woman became unconscious again. The report says she regained conscious and found out she was being punched in the head. The report continues; “Trevor then punched me hard with a closed fist to the left side of my jaw, the left side of my head, and both cheekbones. I remember this vividly and it was extremely startling and painful. I was absolutely frozen and terrified. I could not speak or move. After punching me several times, he then flipped me back onto my stomach and began choking me with hair. I lost consciousness again.”
The worst part of the report comes the pictures, which show her visibly bruised under both her eyes and a swollen jaw. She was bloodied throughout the face as well. She underwent a few medical examinations the following day and notified the San Diego Police department as well.
She then spoke with the Pasedena police department who suggested she try to get him to confess to it through the phone. She did file the report with the Pasedena police department around May 16th, but no arrest have been made at this time. The police department is currently looking into it.
As of now, Bauer’s camp denies all allegations, saying everything was consensual. The Dodgers are working with MLB to conduct their own investigation. As of now, Bauer is slated to continue pitching. One would have to wonder, after today’s report surfacing, if and when will Trevor Bauer been suspended until the outcome of their investigation is complete?
Stay tuned.
