It’s not quite July yet, but we all know that Bobby Bonilla’s contract dictates that every July 1 – through 2035 – the Mets send Bonilla a check for $1.1 million.
The Nationals, in an attempt to retain the services of Bryce Harper, floated the idea of creating a deferred payment contract as well.
The Nationals offered Harper a 10-year, $300 million contract with $100 million of that deferred until Harper was 60-years-old.
What does that mean?
Harper would have been receiving paychecks from the Nationals through 2052.
As it stands, Harper’s contract with the Phillies contains no deferred payments.
