Dynasty Fantasy Baseball: Pitchers on the rise to target

It’s that time of the year, and most dynasty leagues have begun amateur drafts, or maybe you’re plotting some big trades for your team, well, whatever it is, let’s start identifying some stock risers. Starting with the pitchers, let’s take a look at three guys who had a great 2022 and are climbing the boards.

Emmet Sheehan, Dodgers – 6th round draft pick out of 2021 draft, Sheehan had a bounce back campaign from his first season. After his 5.17 ERA in about 76 innings at three different levels. A strikeout artist averaging 19.5 in 2021 and 14 in 2022, his ERA dropped to 2.91 in 2022. He has control issues as he rarely goes past the fifth inning in starts and actually walked more batters than earned runs given up in 2022. He’s a fastball/changeup guy that needs a plus third pitch. He currently projects as a back end bullpen given his control issues and lack of third pitch, but if his curveball develops, he can be a frontline starter in a deep prospect pool. He’s moved up 200 spots in most dynasty rankings. Rotowire ranking: 126, Fantrax Ranking: 190

Drey Jameson, Diamondbacks – A more common name than Sheehan, Jameson was a first round draft pick in 2019 but his numbers haven’t been particularly eye popping. A 5.29 ERA in the minors, Jameson was thrusted into the Majors last year for three starts and excelled with a 1.48 ERA over 24 innings. It was surprising since it he had a 6.95 ERA in AAA Reno over 22 starts. Touching 100 MPH in 2022, like Sheehan, Jameson needs to develop a third pitch in order to reach his ceiling. Jameson has jumped 150 spots in most dynasty rankings. Rotowire (once a top prospect, then dropped to over 200) ranking: 94, Fantrax Ranking: 232

Ben Brown, Cubs – A 33rd round draft pick in 2017, Brown was drafted by the Phillies, and then traded to the Cubs last year. He took three years off after Tommy John surgery and then covid hit, so not many knew what to expect, but he silenced critics by tossing 73 innings, striking out 105 and a stellar 3.05 ERA to start the year with the Phillies. Brown jumped up 130+ spots in most rankings. Rotowire Ranking: 166, Fantrax Ranking: 223
