According to Jon Morosi, prior to the lockout and Justin Verlander signing with Houston, the Braves had detailed conversations with Justin Verlander. The Braves are known to love their one year, high AAV veterans, especially pitchers (See Charlie Morton and Cole Hamels). I’m sure it was a conversation geared around that degree.
In addition to seeking a frontline starter, the Braves are planning to move forward with Freddie Freeman and a frontline starter per Morosi, indicating a hefty raise in their current payroll.
Verlander in this rotation would have looked like this:
- Justin Verlander
- Charlie Morton
- Max Fried
- Ian Anderson
- Kyle Wright/Huascar Ynoa/Mike Soroka (when healthy)/Kyle Muller
With Verlander gone, who can they get to fill that ace role?
