Yankees have stuck through their offseason promise: Fix the starting pitching. In a year that is set to become a swan song for C.C. Sabathia, it looks much more promising with former Mariners veteran James Paxton in the fold. Paxton went – 11-6 last year with a 3.76 ERA striking out 208 batters over 160 innings. Paxton’s only knock is health as he’s only finished 150 plus innings once in his six year career.
Of course Paxton doesn’t come cheap. Yankees parted with their #1 prospect in Justus Sheffield. Sheffield is #31 on the Top 100 list and tasted majors this year after posting a 2.48 ERA in the minors.
Also included was Dom Thompson-Williams, a 23 year old CF in A ball. He hit 22 home runs with a .300 average in a bounce back year.
Yankees #22 prospect, Erik Swanson was the final piece, currently sitting in AAA after a stellar year of 2.66 ERA ball across three leagues.
Talks are said to be on going for more pitching help in Patrick Corbin. Stay tuned for more!
