Happy Valentines Day and every Thursday through the 2019 NAIA Baseball season!
TTFB presents a new ranking, one centered on a strength index of how a team has competed thus far to a point in a season. In a nutshell, a higher ranking team has fared well against current strong opponents while lower ranked (and some high ranked) teams lose points for “bad” losses. These will come out every Thursday.
You’ll notice a tie isn’t in any records below. We hate ties and we award no points for such a result. It’s basically a game that shouldn’t have ever been played and according to our records, it never was played. This isn’t soccer.
Feel free to state your case in the comments on why a team should be higher and what YOU have seen out of these teams. Maybe a few good compliments on the rankings, not so much on the bad comments disagreeing with it (we tried?).
If you see an error, record is wrong, etc – email us at Througthefencebaseball@gmail.com.
View our NAIA Baseball main page here for updated rankings, draft stock, and analysis throughout the season.
We know this looks much better on a desktop right now and not the phone. We’re working on that. In the meantime, hit the top right button on your phones browser (looks like 4 lines) and it’ll be pretty.
February 14th Observations
This is the first ever ranking and there’s bound to be some adjustments. It’s early in the season. Wayyy to early, but hey, these things are fun, right? So, what do we see on the first ranking:
- Rankings are as of the final games on February 13th with 598 NAIA games in the books.
- Of the five teams with 10 or more wins and undefeated, JSI favors LSU Shreveport and Texas Wesleyan the most. Both teams have more impressive wins over their counterparts in Fisher, Lawrence Tech, and Tennessee Wesleyan. Of those three, Tennessee Wesleyan stands to gain the most after a nice victory over the sluggish starting Georgia Gwinnett.
- Why is a team with a losing record ranked 7 right now? We said the same thing, but JSI likes the big wins over Southeastern (#5), Missouri Baptist (#17), William Carey (#26). Their losses haven’t hurt them so far, but they are in line to drop if they continue the same pace of losing two of three to Warner (#42).
- Lewis-Clark State ranked 112?? They’ve only played four games. Relax.
- Florida and southern teams are way ahead of the competition due to more games played.
- Again – Wayy too early, but some impressive starts have pushed some new teams to the top. Who will be there at the end?
